Ella M J Harris
Ella Harris is a Master of Biochemistry student at Lincoln University in New Zealand. After completing a BSc. majoring in Food Science in 2023, Ella chose to further her passion for protein and cellular biochemistry into postgraduate study in the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Her thesis entitled “Cardiolipin and NCL: Investigating phospholipid alterations in ovine models” focuses on Batten disease and understanding how lysosomal perturbations cause changes in mitochondrial phospholipid balance. Her thesis project utilises tissue collected from established CLN5/6 mutant sheep flocks at Lincoln University and investigates disease induced differences in major mitochondrial phospholipid cardiolipin. By improving understanding of the links the between lysosomal and mitochondrial biochemistry, Ella aims to elucidate the mechanism of ATP synthase subunit c accumulation in several forms of Batten disease.
