Lena Marie Westermann

Lena Marie Westermann is a clinician scientist at the University Children’s Hospital of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, working in the research group of Dr. Angela Schulz. Her work focuses on rare neurodegenerative diseases of childhood, particularly CLN2 disease. Within Dr. Schulz’s translational research program, she investigates the clinical effectiveness, safety, and immunogenicity of intracerebroventricular enzyme replacement therapy (Cerliponase alfa), with a special focus on anti-drug antibody responses and their clinical relevance. Dr. Westermann also serves as sub-investigator in international multicenter clinical trials and is pursuing her doctoral thesis on the immunogenic and therapeutic profile of enzyme replacement in CLN2 disease. In 2024, she received the Young Investigator Award at WORLDSymposium for her work in this field.
