Joanna Nightingale

Jo is a scientist and educator with over 18 years of research experience and 10 years of teaching. She has a degree and a PhD and has worked on a variety of diseases including cancer, PhD, and taught in schools and colleges, mostly to students who have English as a second language. From this diverse background she has learnt how to explain complex scientific ideas in a format that is more accessible to everyone and routinely practices on her long-suffering husband! Jo joined the BDFA in 2022 and is the Head of Scientific Affairs. She also has experience of the diagnostic odyssey as her son was diagnosed with a rare disease two years ago. “When I am not working you can find me trying to keep up with my 3 boys and when time permits, I enjoy knitting, puzzles, running and horse riding.”
